The waves knocked down every person under five feet without a care in the world. The sand burned under people's feet, causing them to squeal and run in pain.
Nature was a bitch. A bitch you couldn't get rid of without killing yourself first.
Luckily for Luce, she was safe underneath the shade of a nearby beach bar. Oh yes, they had those. It was mostly for the stupid college students who wanted to get drunk & have sex on the beach. Yep. It was one of those beaches where nudity was allowed, which meant tons of college students. Luce had seen enough pale asses and privates that should stay private to figure that out.
There were naked people, everywhere; drinking in the bar, tanning on the beach, swimming in the water, and playing in the sand. It was a wonder how Luce hadn't gone blind already.
Fortunately for the raven-haired bartender, she had just been let off for the rest of the day. The only reason she was there was because she was doing a favor for a friend, and nothing more. Never again would she be doing favors.
As time passed, and Luce wandered on the beach, people began disappearing. Not in the kidnapping way, but in the way that they all seemed to be congregating in one place.
Clad in a green bikini and Reborn's fedora on her head, Luce followed the line of people to a cave. She tried her best to get out of the line of fire of any body parts 'accidentally' going where they shouldn't.
Tiptoeing above the crowd, she saw two teenagers, a male and a female, on the ground coughing and spluttering in front of a cave entrance.
"It's true!" They both yelled. "There's something in there! A ghost or something... It attacked us!"
The crowd gasped and murmured amongst themselves. Luce simply thought the two to be the stupidest beings alive. They were probably drunk and making out and a rock probably fell and scared the two off.
Someone from the crowd then stepped up. "Yeah, right. If there's something in there, then I'm a whale."
Another person from the crowd scoffed, "If you're such a brave hero, then why don't you go inside?"
The previous person stayed silent and retreated back into the crowd, obviously scared of the contents of the cage.
"Is nobody going to go in there and check it out?" The two on the floor whined.
There was an old, supposedly scary legend about that cave, but Luce definitely didn't believe in any of that crap. She was bored, so might as well go on an 'adventure'.
The raven-haired woman weaved through the crowd and said, "I'll go." She then smiled sweetly. "Which one of you pansies wants to come with me?"

Roy was at the beach ,and was trying to relax. He was lying down under an umbrella. His outfit consisted of sunglasses a Black surf shirt and swim trunks to match it. It was a peaceful day bow if only people weren't running around stark naked. Roy was more disgusted then anything else. "Goddamn people show some respect for yourself. " He muttered as a couple walked by.
Roy heard a commotion and decided to go check it out for himself. Two people were apparently claiming. There was a ghost in there. witch probably wasn't impossible he has seen weirder. He saw a guy step up trying to be macho then laughed at him as he was called out on it. After a moment a girl stepped up.
She said she was going to go in, and better yet asked for a partner. Roy thought it over and came to the conclusion of why the fuck not? Roy stepped up next to the girl and said "I'll go with you. What kind of man would I be if I let a girl go into a dangerous cave all by her lonesome?"

She hated hot weather and sticky sand, colorless shells and dirty seawater, exposed bodies and flirtatious couples. Ah, yes — better to stay inside and not have to worry about that kind of thing — but Iria had been sent out by her parents to buy groceries and absorb some sun, and she had been forced to pass by the beach on her way home.
In her typical fashion, she had observed the crowd with less revulsion and more bewilderment. Weren't there laws against public nudity? Was this something to report the police over, or was she to leave the populace to obtain genital skin cancer as they liked? She eventually decided that it wasn't worth the trouble and no one would care much for a fifteen-year-old's opinion anyway, so she was about to turn around and go to the grocery store when she noticed the crowd.
'A ghost or something — it attacked us...'
Really?
Interesting. Creepy, too, but Iria did not believe in ghosts; she was just scared of them in horror movies, when actors had CG and dark lighting and swerving camera angles to make the world seem a little scarier. Either way, whatever was in the cave, it could hurt people.
Iria was not a hero, but she liked to fight things that hurt people.
However contradictory and paradoxical that kind of logic might have been.
At any rate, when Iria heard the call "Which one of you pansies wants to come with me?" — she hesitated, if only because the girl in the green bikini did not seem to be particularly easygoing company. In a word, she was kind of scary, and Iria Otonashi was not exactly eager to be berated.
It wasn't until the blond boy stood up that Iria felt a little more confident about going. "I'll go with you. What kind of man would I be if I let a girl go into a dangerous cave all by her lonesome?"
Iria considered it.
Clad in a simple white hoodie and blue shorts, she stepped forward.
"I don't think... being a girl or a man has anything to do with it," she said slowly, "but... I'll come too. It'll be — safer, I guess."
Marginally.

In all honesty, it didn't really matter to her. She was going in whether someone came with her or not.
Then, of course, some blonde kid showed up. "I'll go with you. What kind of man would I be if I let a girl go into a dangerous cave all by her lonesome?"
Under her breath, Luce mumbled, "That's not what they say when they're running..." It was true. Fear does strange things to all living creatures.
Just as Luce turned towards the mouth of the cave, another person spoke up, this time a girl.
"I don't think... being a girl or a man has anything to do with it, but... I'll come too. It'll be — safer, I guess."
Luce regarded the two with a kind smile, which provided great contrast with her thoughts and previous words. "I guess it really doesn't have much to do with it, but at least I can say I'm glad to see you both clothed, male or female." She said whilst motioning them towards the cave. While stepping through the mouth, she pulled her grandfather's fedora lower, casting dark shadows across her face.
The only light source in the cave was the sunlight from the outside, but even that didn't penetrate far enough. About 15 feet away, everything seemed to go pitch black. Stalactites and stalagmites lined the floor and walls of the cave, dripping all over the place.
Luce's unnatural, vibrant, green eyes shone as if they were in pure daylight. It was rather frightening to say the least, which might have been the reason for some people not volunteering.
It was practically impossible to tell whether the patches of water on the floor were simply small puddles or bottomless pools. It was still best to stay away from them, lest some sea creature come out and grab them with its slimy, probing tentacles. Ha. Roy looked from the green eyed girl tot he blue eyed girl as she stepped up from the crowd. "Cool, the more the merrier right?" Roy said as he followed Luce into the dark cave. He heard her comment on being clothed and smiled. "I can honestly say the same. To many women with no self respect now days. " He ventured Further and his vision became more impaired. He then walked right into the water and fell a good ten feet under. These waters were really deep.
Roy then swam up to the surface and climbed out. "Be careful you too . these waters really deep. " Roy then fished his box weapon and box animal from his pockets. He held them in his left hand and scrubbed the water off of them with his right. Damn I hope these things are water proof. He thought to himself. After another moment he joined Luce and Iria.

As the trio entered the cave she said nothing, merely pulling the hood of her jacket over her head to protect her head from the cave's falling drops of water. She wondered briefly about the older girl's fedora — a bit of a strange object to wear to a beach, she reflected — but of course did not inquire about it.
"It's dark," she muttered.
There were rocks, rocks everywhere. If Iria had not been wearing shoes she might have found it a very uncomfortable path to walk indeed. The stalactites and stalagmites were kind of interesting, though, in a weird, creepy, cave-y way. In stark contrast to the group's green-eyed leader, Iria was lagging behind somewhat, taking very tentative steps as she waited for her eyes to adjust to the darkness. For the most part she relied on the sounds of dripping water to guide her path.
And with good reason, she reflected, as the blond promptly fell into a small body of water.
At first she panicked — oh no, should I jump in after him? is he going to drown? — but eventually, as he resurfaced and pulled himself out of the water, Iria actually thought it was kind of funny. She had to resist the impulse to laugh. "You okay?" she asked softly, tilting her head to one side.
"Be careful, you two. This water's really deep."
Well, that was obvious enough.
Iria paused in her steps as she watched him dry off his box weapon, blinking in confusion. "Are those jewelry boxes?" She shrugged it off, though, fishing a handkerchief out of her pockets and offering it to him. "You're not going to dry them off like that when you're all wet from falling in... here, use this, Blo — um, I mean, sir."
She had almost called him Blondie.
It was actually kind of tempting.
"Come to think of it," she said, feeling unusually conversational in the echoing chambers of the seaside cave, "I don't know either of your names." She looked back and forth between the now-dripping blond and their dark-haired 'leader,' calmly toying with her hair all the while. They were both clearly foreigners; she would probably have difficulty saying their names properly, but all the same.
"I'm Iria Otonashi... Iria is fine."
