It was yet another normal night at the Sandvich. Despite its... "Unique" name, the Sandvich is actually a bar/pub. It's a decent place: respectful customers, great looks, good music, great food and drinks... It's a perfect place to unwind and drink to your heart's content without worrying about waking up with bruises all over.
Behind the counter, shaking up drinks like a pro, was Vico. He had his usual bartending clothing on and had his hair down and tied back in a ponytail. It was a couple of minutes before the Sandvich opened. No one was around except for him and the other staff, along with the guest musicians. He was sneaking in a small drink for himself before the people started pouring in. After shaking well, he slowly poured his mystical elixir into a glass. He sniffed it and smiled at his concoction. "Vico, you outdone yourself again." He picked up the glass and downed it in no time at all.
After a few moments, he quickly took the glass and started washing it, making it seem like he didn't drink anything at all. He rinsed it and took a cloth, quickly wiping off the water to create a flawless shine. He then slowly placed the glass to where it was before and sighed. I love this job.

Catherine was one of the first customers to walk in. She was wearing her usual attire of a red t-shirt, jeans, fingerless black gloves and her trademark green flat cap. Her jeans were odd, they were a bit torn up on her left side whilst on her right side they are torn off up to the thigh. She walked up to the bar and leaned across it her small amount of bust only just noticeable. She glanced across at Vico and raised a hand.
"Hey bartender, i'll have a white russian with an extra dash of milk" she said. A white russian was her preffered drink and she always had extra milk. She was very cat like in that respect. She loved milk. What was interesting about her order though was that despite speaking the native tongue fluently her irish accent was still clearly in evidence. That had taken more practise then learning the actual language. Speaking the native tongue so it was 100% understandable with an irish accent had been difficult. However, she didn't want to give up on that accent as she thought it sounded awesome and loads of people found it attractive. "Oh and no ice."
As she waited she looked around the bar. She'd been in here a couple of times and it always amazed her that such a classy joint didn't mind her coming in like this and had such a weird name. She ruffled a hand through the back of her dark red messy hair. It was quite short and very messy. Still she appreciated places like this better then most. A place that could serve up tasty food and tasty drinks was a haven for a chef like her. In fact, she had been thinking about seeing if there was an opening here to make some cash.

Vico was busy feigning to polish the glass he quickly snuck a drink out of as Catherine walked in. As soon as she sat down, he glanced up and saw her. In Vico's eyes, she seemed cute and wouldn't mind going on a date with her. He quickly shook out any thoughts he had about her in his mind as she ordered. White Russian, eh? Seems kinda strong for her, but whatever. He took out a glass and a bunch of ingredients necessary for the drink. He quickly poured the liquor, coffee liqueur, and milk while doing some tricks in the middle of it; he lessened the amount of liquor and added more milk out of instinct.
He slid the drink to Catherine and smiled. "So, beautiful, you're a new face around here. Normally women don't come around this place, and I guess you can tell why." Vico yelled an order in English to the kitchen and turned back to Catherine. "There's a reason why we call this place the 'Sandvich' though. The founder of this place is Russian and he made a pretty damn good sandwich. The name 'Sandvich' came from the way he said it and that's where the name of the place and the sandwich came from. We usually serve it to customers here and they love it. Our current owner, the son of the founder, decided to make it so that first-time customers receive the Sandvich, partially to lure customers in, but mainly to make it so that his father's legacy goes on. Hell, this is what got me into getting his job in the first place, though I do like the alcohol here better."
As he spoke, he was mixing up the drink he just made for himself a little while ago. It was full of the juices of apples, oranges, and pineapples with a small shot of vodka mixed in as well. Just as the Sandvich came, he stirred the drink into a nice, caramel-ish orange color and laid the drink next to the Sandvich. "There ya go. One Sandvich. The drink's just one of my own creations. Not sure how well it'll sell, so I need someone to taste test it. Just think of it as a complimentary drink." He smirked as he went back to quietly washing glasses.

She sipped her drink slowly as she listened to the talk from the bartender. So that was why they called it the Sandvich. An interesting reason. Her english was flawless so she'd heard the order. A free sandwich just for coming in the place? That was a good offer and one she wouldn't refuse particularly if this 'sandvich' as the original owner called it was as good as the hype said. Her own drink had been finished by the time the sandvich arrived and the new drink was placed next to it.
"Well if it tastes as good as it smells and looks then i'm surprised this place isn't heaving with customers desperate to get a second helping." she said complimenting the sandvich. She looked at him then back to the glass then back to him before picking up the glass and holding it up to the light letting it filter through. She considered the clarity, the thickness and then took a deep sniff. It smelt good. She shrugged and downed it. It was really sweet, but had one hell of a kick. Quite tasty, but not as tasty, in her mind, as her white russian. "Nice mix, its like a fruit cocktail that explodes in the mouth."
With those words she picked up the sandvich and took a bite. Flavours and textures exploded over her tongue and her eyes actually began watering out of sheer joy at such a delicious treat. As she ate her way through it she tried not to focus on how good it tasted, but what it tasted like. She was trying to analyse the ingredients so she could try to make it herself for cheaper as she had a feeling that whilst the first was free the second would be a lot more expensive.
"Very tasty." she said and then decided to ask the question. "Does the kitchen here have any openings? I may not look it, but i'm quite the chef."

Vico learned a few tricks from the bartending business and was implementing one right now. Through the glass he was washing, he could see his customer's face. Catherine looked just like a cat with her hair and eyes. He was gazing on the reflection until she complemented on the Sandvich. He bolted straight up and had a slight blush on his face. "A-Ah... Yeah... Well, the name's kinda misleading... I tried asking the owner to change it, but it seems as though he wants it to stay the way it is..."
Vico nervously watched as Catherine observed his drink. It was one of his greatest creations he made regarding alcohol. The color was beautiful to say the least, but it didn't seem to fit Catherine well. She seemed to like it, but her voice doesn't really back what she said. He observed her as she picked up the Sandvich and an idea came to mind. He quickly grabbed a pad and pencil from behind the counter and scribbled down a bunch of ingredients for a drink.
Just as he finished, Catherine started crying from eating the Sandvich. He looked up when she sniffed and saw her staring into nothing. He grinned as he knew that most people did the same when eating the Sandvich. "I see you like it. The founder put his heart and soul into making that treat as it was one of the many things he made for his family. It was his pride and joy and I bet that he's smiling in heaven right now, knowing that people still appreciate his cooking."
Pretty soon, Catherine asked if there was a job open in the bar. "Chef, eh? Well, I'm kinda like the co-manager in this place. We're kinda under-staffed at the moment, so sure. For now, just grab one of the menus and look at what's there. And, while you're at it, do you mind testing out another one of my drinks? I came up with it just now."

It was truly a satisfying taste explosion. Of course, if someone put their heart and soul into something you expected it to be good. She hoped one day she would be able to create such a delicious meal that people still enjoyed long after she was dead. To her surprise her request was answered with a yes. It seemed she had finally gotten a job where she could learn and test out culinary techniques. A dream come true for a chef like her. She slid one of the menus over to herself and began to look it over. Most of the stuff she knew how to make and a few things she didn't.
"I can make most of this." she said with a nod. "But a couple i'm not sure about. They are stuff i'd love to learn to cook though." She listened to his request and considered it for a moment. He was technically her boss now so she didn't really have the liberty to refuse. She was also amazed that he had come up with something in that brief few seconds whilst she was eating. She shrugged. "I'll give it a whirl, but if it tastes good then I'll want to know the ingredients

Vico nodded as Catherine stated that she could make most of the foods on the menu easily. He was elated when she agreed to taste the drink for him as well. "Great! As for cooking, I'll be teaching you how to make some of the stuff on the menu on my spare time. Now for your drink..."
Vico took out a hurricane glass. He then took out a mixer and two bottles; one contained a green mint liqueur and the other contained a clear, but strong vodka. He put in a good amount of each, along with some ground-up ice, and shook them up. As he was doing so, he eyed around for some other choice ingredients and saw a carton of cream. As he finished mixing it, he poured the contents into the glass, which came out as a pretty clear and lime green liquid and took up about 2/3 of the glass. He opened the carton of cream and filled it just enough so that there was at least a centimeter of air on top.
He took out a mint leaf and put it on top and slowly slid it towards Catherine. "Voila. Here's your drink. Call it cheesy, but I named it the Emerald Eye. If you can think of a better name, please tell me." Vico laughed as he scratched his head in embarrassment. He then stopped and realized that he hadn't caught her name yet. "Ah... Say, what's your name? Mine's Vico Adriano Tsukino, but please, just call me Vico."

So her new boss had some talent in the kitchen or at least enough to be able to teach her what she didn't know. That was good. Odd that he'd be doing it in his spare time, but she guessed he had to watch the bar when he was on duty. Still, it was odd to do offer to teach someone work related stuff when you could be relaxing. She didn't let it bother her though. She'd watched as he made the 'emerald eye' as he had deemed to call it. Vodka, cream and mint liquer with some ground up ice.
She raised the glass and inspected the colour of it once more. It was quite a pretty drink. She took a small sip. The vodka in it was quite strong, but it was offset by the smoothness of the cream. She was just glad he hadn't chosen an orange liqeur to add to it as well or orange juice instead of cream. Not only would that have ruined the taste completely it would probably have messed up the beautiful colouring. It was quite palatable, particularly after the first sip. Not as nice as her favourite White Russian, but she felt over time she might actually begin to enjoy this drink more. This man, this 'vico' was an amazing bartender to be able to make a drink that suited someone when all he had seen was her drinking one drink. Most, if they attempted at all, would watch a person drink several drinks, find the common element and then make something from them. He was very impressive.
"A tasty mix and the name suits it fine. I'm Catherine West, a lot of people call me Kitty though." she said with a grin. "You can me that or Catherine. Up to you boss."[

Vico scratched his cheek a little when Catherine called him boss. "Heh... Most people don't call me boss. We're kinda like one big happy family in this place." He perked his ears at the mention of Catherine's name. "Catherine, eh? It fits you well. You don't mind if I call you Cathy, do you?" He went in closer and observed her face. "Now that I look, you've got quite a pretty face. To be honest, that's what got this drink in my head, and that doesn't really happen often." He made a gentle smile as he went back to polishing his glass.
After a few moments, a few new customers walked in and sat on stools near Catherine. Vico went to them and began shaking up drinks they requested. As he was doing so, he turned to Catherine. "Cathy, just wait a sec, okay? I'll talk to you more about your job as soon as I'm done." He quickly went to his customer's aide as he began taking orders and started chatting with them as well.

Catherine said nothing, just blushed slightly, as his compliment. Cathy was a new one, it seemed a lot less formal then her proper name, but more like an actual name then her nickname. It was nice sounding. She nodded in response to saying he'd be back shortly once he'd dealt with the customers.
However, it seemed he wouldn't be done dealing with them anytime soon because the bar began to fill up quite quickly now a certain time had passed. It seemed there weren't very many bar staff other then Vico either. She shrugged and rose to her feet before swinging herself over to the other side of the bar.
"Looks like ya needed a hand Vico." she said with a mock salute to him. Her speciality was food, but she had enough skill to mix up some basic drinks and pour stuff like lager. "Hope ya don't mind me stepping in." Without another word she began taking orders, serving drinks and generally just doing what any good bartender would do. She didn't look the part, but she did a good job.

Vico was starting to have a little trouble managing the customer influx. The food was doing alright, but the drinks were kinda on the slow side. He managed to keep the customers entertained with small talk and the works, but pretty soon, some were getting impatient. When Catherine offered to help, Vico turned to her with astonishment and nodded. "Whoa, you know how to bartend too? Great! That'll put a load off my shoulders." One of the customers started playing with Vico and Catherine, saying that the two would make a great couple. He just blushed and continued making drinks silently.
After a few moments, the silence was starting to bug Vico. He looked up to the guest musicians and called. "Yo guys! Play us something good!" Customers started agreeing with Vico and requested some music. The musicians nodded and started playing some smooth jazz and blues. It fit the mellow atmosphere of the place and it definitely relaxed Vico. He turned to Catherine as he was making his drinks. "Cathy, how're you holdin' up?"

"When it comes to stuff like food and drink there isn't a lot that I can't do." she said as she mixed up some complicated drink that a man had ordered. It was called Russian Skittles, a shot of 6 different flavored sourz and then a shot of vodka all mixed with lemonade. It was an insane mix and very pricey, but also very tasty. She was surprised anyone had heard of it because it was quite unknown. Whenever she'd ordered it people had no idea what the hell she was on about.
As the comments about them making a good couple she just slid her hat down a bit to hide her eyes and hopefully a bit of her blush and kept working. The music played by the musicians was quite soothing even if it wasn't really her style. She was a rock girl at heart, but she didn't have the heart to tell Vico. He seemed to be enjoying the music.
"Pretty good Vico." she said with a grin. Her grin was quite infectious. "A few drinks I had to look up, but i've had no real problems so far."
Note: Russian Skittles is a drink I made up in real life. It has a counterpart called the Dr.Jackyl where you replace the vodka with Jack Daniels. Originally, it only had four sourz, but I felt more sourz = better and more skittley.

Vico looked at Catherine when she grinned and blushed a little. In his eyes, it was beyond cute the way she did it, but when one of the customers knocked on the table, he snapped out of his trance. The customer made a joke about how Vico was in love and the rest of the customers just laughed. Vico's face turned scarlet red as he continued to make drinks. "Ahahaha... N-Nice one..."
Just as he finished a drink, the music group finished their song. Some of the customers clapped and the guitar player took the mic. "Thank you. We'll be here all night. Now, anyone wanna request a song?" Vico slid the glass towards his customer and raised his hand. "Mind playing some rock?" The guitarist looked up at Vico and gave him a thumbs up. "Can do boss man. Ready guys?" The rest of the group nodded. Vico returned the thumbs up and the group started playing a energetic rock song.
As the music was playing, Vico preformed some fancy and daring moves with the bottles and glasses. He started throwing them up in the air, and catching them with two fingers, behind his back, and more. Some of the customers stared in awe while others just laughed at those in awe. "Talented one, ain't he?" "I'll say..." It looked like he was dancing along with the music as he was pouring the drinks; some of the customers didn't even realize their drink was done while he was "dancing".
WORDS! --- TAGS! Catherine NOTES! I'm not really sure about drinks and stuff. I just made Vico into a bartender 'cuz it seemed awesome. XD [/style] | |

Catherine tried to ignore the statements of the patrons, but her blush was getting more and more obvious. She turned away from them for a second and splashed her face with some cold water. That at least cooled her face down a bit. If she blushed much more then the water would probably be steaming, but instead it reduced her blush. She quickly dried her face and then returned to serving just as Vico asked for some rock to be put on. Much more her style. However, what amazed her was that he had picked that just after she'd been thinking that. Could he read her mind? Or was just good at reading people? I suppose she came across as a bit of a rocker, though not too much.
She watched Vico do his performance with the drinks. He was quite an amazing guy. She was almost hypnotised by it. However, she was snapped out of her revelry by the sound of a hand slapping the bar next to her sharply. SHe turned slowly and saw an impatient looking customer. She bowed her head slightly.
"Sorry about that. He's quite amazing with his cocktail making isn't he?" she said with a smile and quickly made his drink giving him a bit extra for free due to the wait. It wasn't his fault she'd been distracted after all. The man however didn't seem happy enough with that and still looked angry. He began calling her names degrading her for her gender. A glint came to her eye and if Vico looked at her closely he would notice her fist clenching. She wouldn't do anything if the man stopped, but if he didn't then few would be able to stop her.
"If our service offends we apologise." she said her voice cracking as she tried to keep herself calm. It was difficult though. Her irish blood was beginning to boil. She turned away from him, but his tirade didn't stop. The glint behind her eye was rapidly turning into a spark and Vico would notice she was clearly restraining herself a lot. However, a small spark was beginning to form around her hand, very, very faint, but clearly storm flame.

As Vico was entertaining the customers, he overheard some of the things a customer was saying about Catherine. He slowly halted with his fancy tosses and catches as some of the other customers looked at the one badmouthing Catherine. "Oh boy... Here he goes again..." "Hey man, can you give it a rest?" "Hey, relax!" Vico laid the bottles down and looked back at the kitchen. He ordered two bartenders on break to fill in his spot in English and went to Catherine.
By the time he reached her, he saw that she was starting to crack. Just as he was about to put his hand on her shoulder, he saw the faint crackle of Storm flames on her hand. He quickly stopped and turned to the customer who started the fight. Things weren't looking good and he needed to stop this quick.
Vico slammed his hands on the table and stared at the disruptive customer straight in the eye. "Hey, buddy. Mind not fighting in this bar?" The man just looked at Vico with a weird look on his face and waved him off. "Yeah, whatever. Get me the manager of this place! I've gotta complaint about this place." Vico grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him up close. His voice started turning grim and his glare turned icy cold. "Hey, listen. I'm the co-owner. I saw everything, so you ain't got a right to complain. Now either be good or get the hell out, 'cuz I don't need to deal with this." Vico let go of the man's shirt collar and went back to Catherine.
As soon as the two other bartenders started taking over, Vico's harsh voice and deathly stare turned back into the kind and cheerful one everybody knows. He scratched his cheek as he started explaining. "Heh... Sorry you had to see that... Why don't we go out back and chat for a bit. 'Kay?" He wrapped his arm around Catherine and motioned her to follow him. He moved his lips close to her ears and whispered so that only she could hear what he was about to say. "We need to talk about those Storm flames of yours..."
